Regular Season Round 13: Taipans - Breakers 73-66

The game between third ranked New Zealand Breakers (11-7) and sixth ranked Cairns Taipans (7-11) was the most important one in the last round on Thursday night. New Zealand Breakers were defeated by Cairns Taipans in a tough game in Cairns 66-73. The game without a history. Cairns Taipans led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Shaun Bruce (190-91) contributed with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. American center Charles Jackson (208-93, college: Tenn Tech) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth, agency: Beo Basket) added 24 points in the effort for New Zealand Breakers. Cairns Taipans maintains sixth place with 7-11 record. Defending champion New Zealand Breakers keep the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Hawks. Cairns Taipans are looking forward to face Townsville Crocodiles (#7) in Wulguru in the next round. New Zealand Breakers will play at home against Adelaide 36ers (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
