Regular Season Round 14: Araberri - Avila 95-66

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Fontedoso Carrefour (10-3) in Vitoria-Gasteiz on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by fifth ranked Araberri (8-5) 95-66. The game was mostly controlled by Araberri. Fontedoso Carrefour managed to win fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Araberri forced 20 Fontedoso Carrefour turnovers and outrebounded them 36-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Fontedoso Carrefour's players. American forward Beau Levesque (200-91, college: St.Mary's, CA) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Bosnian Mirza Bulic (207-92) contributed with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Araberri players scored in double figures. Araberri's coach Sergio Jimenez felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Serbian power forward Stefan Asanin (206-91) replied with 9 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Carles Marzo (190-92, agency: Duran International) added 10 points and 4 assists in the effort for Fontedoso Carrefour. Araberri have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Lucentum and Sammic ISB. Fontedoso Carrefour at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Araberri is looking forward to face El Olivar (#13) in Zaragoza in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fontedoso Carrefour will play on the road against the league's second-placed Marin (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
