Very important is a road loss of third ranked Meridiano Alicante (8-5) against seventh ranked Moron (7-6) on Saturday night. Visiting Meridiano Alicante was defeated by Moron in Morón de la Frontera 71-61. The game was mostly controlled by Moron. Meridiano Alicante was better in third quarter 25-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Meridiano Alicante to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Meridiano Alicante 44-32 including 18 on the offensive glass. Moron brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. Power forward Jose Maria Morales (205-89) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Mike Phillips (201-91, college: Howard) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Cameroonian center Johan Kody (207-93) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and forward Jon Aramburu (204-92, agency: Duran International) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Meridiano Alicante's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Moron moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Granada. Meridiano Alicante at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. They share it with Sammic ISB and Araberri. Moron will play against bottom-ranked Getafe (#14) in Madrid in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Meridiano Alicante will play at home against Clinicas Rincon (#11) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
