There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Battipaglia (5-8) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Torino (4-9) 84-76 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Battipaglia won third quarter 25-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American guard Yvonne Anderson (170-90, college: Texas, agency: Two Points) stepped up and scored 31 points for the winners and her fellow American import center Jenna Smith (191-88, college: Illinois, agency: Two Points) chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Rashanda Gray (191-93, college: High School USA) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and Dutch Kourtney Treffers (187-94, agency: Court Side) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Torino maintains tenth place with 4-9 record. Loser Battipaglia keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Parma. Torino will meet at home bottom-ranked Vigarano (#14) in the next round. Battipaglia will play against Familia Schio (#3) and hope to secure a win.
