There was a surprise result in Madrid where ninth ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (7-7) smashed higher ranked Gran Canaria (8-6) 92-72 on Sunday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada had a 25-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Croatian point guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Alti Sport) who scored 21 points and 4 assists. Belgian-Congolese point guard Jonathan Tabu (189-85) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Four Baloncesto Fuenlabrada players scored in double figures. Canadian guard Kevin Pangos (189-93, college: Gonzaga, agency: Priority Sports) produced 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Slovenian center Alen Omic (217-92) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Andorra. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada will face UCAM Murcia (#16) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play against FIATC Joventut (#11) and hope to win that game.
