Regular Season Round 29: Niigata Albirex - Osaka Evessa 67-86

The biggest surprise of round 29 in BJ League was guest Osaka Evessa's (#5) easy road victory over 4th placed Niigata Albirex (16-10) 86-67 on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Osaka Evessa. Niigata Albirex managed to win third quarter 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Osaka Evessa looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Lawrence Blackledge (206-86, college: Marquette) who scored 28 points and 5 steals. Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Blackledge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Osaka Evessa players scored in double figures. Senegalese center Pape Faye (200-87) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists and Jamaican-American power forward Ryan Reid (204-86, college: Florida St., agency: Comsport) added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Osaka Evessa maintains fifth place with 17-9 record. Niigata Albirex lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with ten games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
