Regular Season Round 14: Slask Wroclaw - Wilki Morskie 82-85

Seventeenth-ranked Slask (2-12) used its home court advantage to challenge tenth ranked Wilki Morskie (7-7) in Wroclaw on Monday. The visitors from Szczecin managed to secure only three-point victory 85-82. However their fans expected much easier game. Slask trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 26-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 82-85 at the end of the game. Wilki Morskie made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Slask outrebounded Wilki Morskie 40-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. The former international swingman Pawel Kikowski (193-86) notched 20 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and American Frank Gaines (191-90, college: IPFW, agency: Comsport) supported him with 18 points. Wilki Morskie's coach Marek Lukomski allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds by American power forward Jarvis Williams (203-93, college: Murray St.) did not help to save the game for Slask. Naturalized Ukrainian Vitaliy Kovalenko (204-84) added 11 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Wilki Morskie maintains tenth position with 7-7 record, which they share with Stal Ostrow. Slask lost tenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Wilki Morskie will meet Polpharma (#15) in the next round where they are favorite. Slask will play against Polpharma in Starogard and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
