Regular Season Round 17: Azad - Petrochimi 82-73

Top ranked Petrochimi (13-4) recorded its fourth loss in Tehran on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Azad (12-5) 82-73. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Petrochimi. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Azad made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Petrochimi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American Tony Weeden (183-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Three Eye Sports) who scored 20 points and 4 assists. International power forward Rouzbeh Arghavan (214-88) chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds. Five Azad players scored in double figures. International Behnam Yakhchali (197-95) produced 21 points and 4 steals and the former international point guard Hamed Hosseinzadeh (187-87) added 19 points respectively for the guests. Petrochimi's coach Mehran Shahintab rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Azad have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Arak and Naft Abadan. Petrochimi at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. Azad is looking forward to face Arak (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Petrochimi will play against Army and is hoping to win this game.
