Regular Season Round 14: Taipans - Wildcats 71-61

There was a change at the NBL leadership position after last games. Round 14 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Perth Wildcats (13-8). They were defeated by sixth ranked Cairns Taipans (9-11) 71-61 on Wednesday night. The game without a history. Cairns Taipans led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cairns Taipans made 8 blocks. American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international guard Cameron Gliddon (196-89, college: Concordia Irvine) chipped in 7 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. American guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) responded with 18 points and the former international power forward Matthew Knight (204-85, college: Loyola Mary) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Perth Wildcats' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cairns Taipans maintains sixth position with 9-11 record. Perth Wildcats at the other side dropped to the second place with eight games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by United. Perth Wildcats will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Cairns Taipans will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked United in Melbourne.
