Regular Season Round 15: Jugla - VeA 94-66
Date: January 6, 2016
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Riga where 8th ranked Ventspils Augstskola (3-11) was outplayed by ninth ranked Jugla (3-11) 94-66 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Jugla led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 19 Ventspils Augstskola turnovers and outrebounded them 48-24 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jugla looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for guard Kristians Viksne (191-97) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 9 rebounds. Power forward Andris Petersons (192-97) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Jugla players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Martins Rugajs (194-91) with 14 points and center Aivis Lemanis (196-97) scored 10 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jugla moved-up to eighth place, which they share with VeA. Jugla will face league's second-placed ViA in Valmiera in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
