Regular Season Round 5: Guaros - Toros 90-87

Bottom-ranked Toros (0-3) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 90-87 loss to fourth ranked Guaros (4-1) in Barquisimeto on Wednesday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The hosts trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 3 points. International point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) stepped up and scored 27 points and 4 assists for the winners and the former international swingman Rafael Guevara (193-79) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. American point guard Andre Barrett (180-82, college: Seton Hall) responded with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Cape Verdean swingman B.J. Monteiro (195-90, college: Duquesne) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toros' coach Nacho Lezkano tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Guaros. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Cocodrilos. Toros lost their third game in a row. They still close the standings with three games lost. Guaros will again meet at home bottom-ranked Toros (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Toros will have a break next round.
