Regular Season Round 13: Viareggio - San Pietro 54-60

Date: January 6, 2016
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Viareggio (3-10) lost at home to third ranked San Pietro (11-2) 60-54 on Wednesday. Viareggio was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 17-7 charge of San Pietro, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Viareggio to just 7 points in fourth quarter. San Pietro made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. Quite impressive performance for forward Stella Panella (177-93) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 7 rebounds. The former international power forward Federica Brunetti (184-88, agency: Players Group) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Lisa Tripalo (176-87) answered with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 9 steals and guard Federica Iannucci (175-93) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Viareggio. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Pietro maintains third place in A2 with 11-2 record having four points less than leader Broni. Newly promoted Viareggio keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. San Pietro will face league's second-placed Ferrara on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Viareggio will play against Castellammare (#7) in Stabia and hope to win that game.
