Regular Season Round 13: Marghera - Pordenone 71-61 OT

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Marghera (7-6) beat higher ranked Pordenone (7-6) in Venezia 71-61 on Wednesday. Pordenone was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 21-13 charge of Marghera, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 15-5. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Pordenone to just 5 points in second quarter. Marghera forced 20 Pordenone turnovers. It was a very good performance for forward Carla Fabris (185-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). Naturalized Argentinian guard Laura Nicolini (174-75) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Four Marghera players scored in double figures. Center Sara Madera (186-0) answered with 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and point guard Rachele Porcu (165-97) added 9 points and 4 steals in the effort for Pordenone. Pordenone's coach Andrea Da Prato tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Marghera moved-up to fifth place in A2. Marghera will face league's leader Broni on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pordenone will play against Alpo VR (#6) and hope to win that game.
