Regular Season Round 18: Arak - Azad 89-86

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Arak and second-best Azad had identical 12-5 record. This time Arak used a home court advantage and edged the opponent from Tehran 89-86 on Thursday night. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-86. The best player for the winners was Croatian power forward Zvonko Buljan (206-87, college: TCU) who scored 27 points. International Hamed Afagh (193-83) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Arak players scored in double figures. Arak's coach Mohammad Kasaeipour used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was international guard Javad Davari (185-83) who recorded 26 points and 4 assists and American Tony Weeden (183-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Three Eye Sports) added 16 points respectively. Arak (13-5) moved-up to second place, which they share with Naft Abadan. Loser Azad dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Arak will face Ayandeh Sazan (#9) in Tehran in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Azad will play on the road against Naft Abadan (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
