The game in Porlamar was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Bucaneros (4-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Guaiqueries (2-2). Bucaneros defeated Guaiqueries 83-69 on Thursday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Bucaneros dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Guaiqueries' 32. They outrebounded Guaiqueries 49-38 including 34 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bucaneros made 7 blocks. Dominican guard Juan Coronado (193-83) notched 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and Vincentian center Shawn King (208-82, college: ORU, agency: Pensack Sports) supported him with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Even a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds by Dominican Victor Liz (188-86) did not help to save the game for Guaiqueries. The former international guard Michael Flores (192-85) added 16 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Bucaneros maintains fourth position with 4-2 record. Loser Guaiqueries dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. Bucaneros will meet at home league's second-placed Cocodrilos in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Guaiqueries will play against Gaiteros (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
