Regular Season Round 14: Breakers - 36ers 81-87

Very important is a home loss of third ranked New Zealand Breakers (11-8) against fifth ranked Adelaide 36ers (10-9) on Friday night. Host New Zealand Breakers were defeated by Adelaide 36ers in a tough game in Auckland 81-87. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But New Zealand Breakers won third quarter 20-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Adelaide 36ers made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Daniel Johnson (210-88, college: Pepperdine) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). American-Ukrainian point guard Jerome Randle (175-87, college: California) chipped in 25 points and 8 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Adelaide 36ers' coach Joey Wright used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fijian-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (197-82) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. Adelaide 36ers have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 10-9 record. Defending champion New Zealand Breakers dropped to the fourth place with eight games lost. Adelaide 36ers will meet Townsville Crocodiles (#7) in the next round. New Zealand Breakers will play against Illawarra Hawks and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
