Regular Season Round 14: Ancona - Irpino 71-60

There was an upset when higher ranked Irpino (5-9) was defeated on the road by thirteenth ranked Ancona (3-11) 71-60 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Ancona. Irpino was better in second period 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. Irpino was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Carola Sordi (181-82) scored 26 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Margherita Mataloni (172-95) chipped in 15 points during the contest. Four Ancona players scored in double figures. Naturalized Argentinian guard Valentina Maggi (174-85) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and guard Camilla Valerio (180-93) scored 16 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ancona moved-up to twelfth place in A2. Loser Irpino keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Ancona will face higher ranked Civitanova (#10) in Civitanova Marche in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
