There was no surprise when 14th ranked Barcelona (1-12) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Segle XXI (4-9) 73-68 on Saturday. Barcelona trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 19-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 68-73 at the end of the game. Segle XXI made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. Segle XXI outrebounded Barcelona 46-32 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Barcelona was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Aina Ayuso (181-99) fired 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Center Laia Sole (184-98) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four Segle XXI players scored in double figures. Segle XXI's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Power forward Claudia Baraut (185-94) produced 21 points and 8 rebounds and forward Ana Alonso (187-90) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Segle XXI moved-up to tenth place in Group B, which they share with Almeria. Barcelona lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fourteenth position with 12 games lost. Segle XXI will face higher ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (#4) in Madrid in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barcelona will play on the road against Plenilunio (#6) in Madrid and hope to win that game.
