Regular Season Round 15: Gernika - Avenida 72-80

The game between Top Four teams took place in Gernika. 4th placed host Gernika (9-6) lost to first ranked Perfumerias Avenida (14-1) 80-72. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-19. But Gernika won second period 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for Jamaican power forward Vanessa Gidden (192-85, college: Hofstra, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Greek-American guard Jacki Gemelos (182-88, college: USC) accounted for 12 points and 6 assists for the winning side. Argentinian center Gisela Vega (188-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) came up with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Romanian forward Claudia Pop (182-89, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Gernika in the defeat. Four Perfumerias Avenida and five Gernika players scored in double figures. Gernika's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Perfumerias Avenida have an impressive series of fourteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-1 record. Gernika at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Cadi La Seu. Perfumerias Avenida will play against bottom-ranked Azkoitia (#14) in Azpeitia in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gernika will play on the road against CREF Hola (#10) in Madrid and hopes to get back on the winning track.
