Regular Season Round 12: Al Shamal - Al Jaysh 73-91

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Doha: Al Jaysh (#4) and Al Shamal (#7). Al Shamal was smashed at home by 18 points 73-91 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Shamal. The game without a history. Al Jaysh led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Al Shamal's 38. They outrebounded Al Shamal 50-31 including a 42-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Jaysh looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Al Shamal's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) who added 15 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Al Jaysh players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American swingman Mildon Ambres (198-84, college: S.Nazarene) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and Moroccan-Canadian Mohamed Hachad (194-83, college: Northwestern) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Al Jaysh maintains fourth position with 7-3 record. Al Shamal at the other side keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. Al Jaysh are looking forward to face Al Wakrah (#5) at home in the next round. Al Shamal's supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Rayyan.
