Regular Season Round 17: Valka/Valga - BK Ogre 98-83

Date: January 9, 2016
Rather predictable result when eighth ranked Valka/Valga (5-5) won against at home 10th ranked BK Ogre (3-13) 98-83. It looked good early as BK Ogre took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Valka/Valga had a 29-23 second period charge getting the lead and BK Ogre was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 83-98. 24 personal fouls committed by BK Ogre helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Estonian point guard Valmo Kriisa (190-74) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Martins Berkis (198-85) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Five Valka/Valga players scored in double figures. Forward Karlis Apsitis (200-92) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Evan Kelley (193-92, college: Sacred Heart) added 16 points and 6 assists respectively for the guests. BK Ogre's coach Edgars Teteris rotated ten players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Valka/Valga maintains eighth place with 5-5 record. BK Ogre lost their ninth game in a row. BK Ogre at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost. Valka/Valga will have a break next round. BK Ogre will play on the road against Latvijas Universitate (#11) in Riga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
