There was a small surprise in Riga where seventh ranked Buki/BJSS (5-9) defeated 4th placed Jekabpils II (9-6) 82-67 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 47-25 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Buki/BJSS dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Jekabpils II's 32. They outrebounded Jekabpils II 52-32 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jekabpils II was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for the former international center Kaspars Cipruss (210-82) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 19 rebounds. Guard Matiss Caune (187-93) helped adding 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Buki/BJSS players scored in double figures. Buki/BJSS's coach Arturs Brunins used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was power forward Ritvars Bukovskis (194-97) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and forward Reinis Avotins (196-98) scored 20 points. Buki/BJSS moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Livani. Loser Jekabpils II keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Buki/BJSS's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Riga to the arena .
