Regular Season Round 14: Viterbo - Salerno 57-55

Very predictable result when eighth ranked Viterbo (7-7) edged at home 14th ranked Salerno (2-12) 57-55 on Saturday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Salerno was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 17-7 charge of Viterbo, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Salerno to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Viterbo forced 19 Salerno turnovers. Strangely Salerno outrebounded Viterbo 46-33 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Giulia Ciavarella (181-97) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Bulgarian forward Roksana Yordanova (184-84) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Forward Lucrezia Costa (182-97) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and Francesca Russo (178-96) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Salerno's coach Pietro Di Capua tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Viterbo moved-up to seventh place in A2. Loser Salerno keeps the fourteenth position with 12 games lost. Viterbo will face Viareggio (#11) on the road in the next round. Salerno will play against Castellammare and hope to win that game.
