Regular Season Round 14: FoA - PeKa 80-72

Very expected game when 9th ranked Peli-Karhut (1-12) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Forssan Alku (8-7) 80-72. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Peli-Karhut won third quarter 29-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Peli-Karhut 48-30 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Candice Warthen (165-92, college: Arizona) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and the other American import forward Crystal Leary (185-92, college: W.Virginia) supported her with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Five Forssan Alku players scored in double figures. Forssan Alku's coach Jari Marjamaki allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 24 points and 4 assists by American guard Deonica McCormick (173, college: Mobile, AL) did not help to save the game for Peli-Karhut. Center Matilda-Annastiina Masseli (186-98) added 17 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Forssan Alku moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Honka. Peli-Karhut lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Forssan Alku will play against higher ranked HyPo (#3) in Hyvinkaa in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Peli-Karhut will play at home against the league's second-placed ViVe (#2) to get more than just one victory in their record.
