Very important is a home loss of second ranked Townsville Fire (11-6) against sixth ranked SEQ (9-8) on Saturday night. Host Townsville Fire was defeated by SEQ in Townsville 90-80. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Townsville Fire. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. SEQ made 24-of-26 charity shots (92.3 percent) during the game. Guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) nailed 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and American forward Jordan Hooper (188-92, college: Nebraska) accounted for 19 points and 11 rebounds. The former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and the former international center Cayla George (192-89) added 16 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Townsville Fire in the defeat. Five SEQ and four Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. Newly promoted SEQ maintains sixth place with 9-8 record. Defending champion Townsville Fire dropped to the third position with six games lost. They share it with Dandenong. SEQ will play against bottom-ranked Canberra Capitals (#9) at home in the next round. Townsville Fire will play against Canberra Capitals (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
