Regular Season Round 13: Dandenong - Sydney 64-61

There was a change at the WNBL leadership position after last games. Round 13 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Sydney Uni Flames (12-6). They were edged by fourth ranked Dandenong Rangers (11-6) 64-61 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Sydney Uni Flames. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sydney Uni Flames won third quarter 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Dandenong Rangers made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. International forward Sara Blicavs (188-93) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and the former international guard Stephanie Cumming (178-90) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American center Carolyn Swords (198-89, college: Boston Coll., agency: LBM Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and guard Alex Wilson (174-94) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sydney Uni Flames' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Dandenong Rangers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Townsville. Sydney Uni Flames at the other side still keep top position with six games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Perth who have the same record. Sydney Uni Flames will play next round against Bendigo Spirit trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Dandenong Rangers will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Boomers in Melbourne.
