Regular Season Round 8: Gigantes - Panteras 77-87

Very expected game in Puerto Ordaz where 9th ranked Gigantes (1-6) were defeated by fifth ranked Panteras (4-3) 87-77. It looked good early as Gigantes took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Panteras had a 19-13 second period charge getting the lead and Gigantes were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-87. It was a great shooting night for Panteras especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 5 assists. International point guard Abrouse Acosta (180-92) contributed with 11 points and 5 assists for the winners. The former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) replied with 22 points and 9 rebounds and American swingman Omar Reed (200-87, college: Bluefield, agency: Haylett Sports) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Gigantes. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gigantes' coach Carl Herrera tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Panteras have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 4-3 record. Gigantes lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with six games lost. Panteras will have a break next round. Gigantes will play again at home against Panteras (#5) and hope to win that game.
