Regular Season Round 13: Al Shamal - Al Rayyan 78-91
Date: January 12, 2016
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Doha: Al Rayyan (#3) and Al Shamal (#7). Al Shamal was defeated at home 78-91 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Al Rayyan. Al Shamal was better in fourth quarter 28-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import center Kwame Alexander (201-90, college: CS San Bernar.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. Moroccan-Canadian Mohamed Hachad (194-83, college: Northwestern) answered with 27 points and 8 rebounds and American swingman Mildon Ambres (198-84, college: S.Nazarene) added 26 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Al Shamal. The victory was the third consecutive win for Al Rayyan. Defending champion (10-1) moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Gharafa. Al Shamal at the other side keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Al Rayyan will play against Al Wakrah (#5) at home in the next round. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Ahli.
