Regular Season Round 16: Minas - Pinheiros 70-83

Very significant was Pinheiros' (#6) 83-70 road victory against 7th ranked Minas. The game was mostly controlled by Pinheiros. Minas was better in fourth quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Minas 41-26 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) who scored that evening 31 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Lucas Dias Silva (209-95) supported him with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds by center Ralfi Ansaloni (211-87) did not help to save the game for Minas. American guard Benzor Simmons (196-88, college: Tenn-Martin) added 13 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pinheiros maintains sixth position with 8-7 record. Minas at the other side dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost. Pinheiros will play against Brasilia (#9) on the road in the next round. Minas will play against Caxias do Sul and hopes to get back on the winning track.
