Regular Season Round 15: Taipans - United 65-83

Leader United recorded the fifteenth victory on Wednesday night. This time they beat 6th ranked Cairns Taipans (9-12) 83-65. The game was mostly controlled by United. Cairns Taipans managed to win fourth quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. United shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. It was a great evening for American guard Stephen Holt (193-91, college: St.Mary's, CA) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) helped adding 19 points. Five United players scored in double figures. United's coach Dean Demopoulos used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds and the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) scored 22 points and 4 steals. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for United. They maintain first place with 15-7 record. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. United will meet Adelaide 36ers (#4) in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play against New Zealand Breakers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
