Regular Season Round 19: Naft Abadan - Azad 87-77

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Azad (12-7) lost on the road to third ranked Naft Abadan (14-5) 87-77. The game was mostly controlled by Naft Abadan. Azad was better in third quarter 26-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Naft Abadan dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Azad's 26. Naft Abadan forced 20 Azad turnovers. Azad was plagued by 36 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Serbian power forward Miljan Pupovic (210-83) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. International Mohammad Jamshidi (199-91) helped adding 17 points and 5 assists. At the losing side the former international guard Emad Salmani (188-90) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and international guard Javad Davari (185-83) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naft Abadan moved-up to second place. Azad at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Naft Abadan will play against Samen (#7) in Mash'had in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Azad will play at home against Shahrdari Gorgan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
