Regular Season Round 15: United - Taipans 98-68
Date: January 15, 2016
Leader United delivered the fifteenth win on Friday night. This time they crushed 6th ranked Cairns Taipans (9-12) 98-68 in Melbourne. The game was mostly controlled by United. Cairns Taipans managed to win fourth quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) who scored 18 points. American guard Stephen Holt (193-91, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Five United players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) who recorded 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American point guard Markel Starks (188-91, college: Georgetown) added 14 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. United (15-7) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place. Cairns Taipans at the other side keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. United are looking forward to face Adelaide 36ers (#4) in Findon in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play at home against New Zealand Breakers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
