Regular Season Round 17: Paulistano - Rio Claro 70-73

The most exciting game of round 17 in the NBB took place in Sao Paolo. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-ranked Paulistano (11-3) to eleventh ranked Rio Claro (6-10) 73-70 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. Rio Claro forced 28 Paulistano turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international Guilherme Teichmann (206-83, college: Tulsa) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Eric Romualdo (185-83) chipped in 17 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Rio Claro players scored in double figures. Rio Claro's coach Dede Barbosa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international center Caio Silveira (211-87, agency: Interperformances) produced 16 points and 9 rebounds and the former international Luis Felipe Gruber (206-85) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Rio Claro maintains eleventh place with 6-10 record. Paulistano at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Rio Claro are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Macae (#15) at home in the next round. Paulistano will play against SKY/Basquete (#4) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
