Regular Season Round 16: Basket Esch - Sparta 82-89

There was a minor upset when 4th ranked Basket Esch (9-7) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Sparta (6-10) 89-82. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 28-22. But Basket Esch won second period 24-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Sparta especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Rashad Hassan (203-89, college: Savannah St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds. The former international Dean Gindt (201-91) contributed with 29 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Jibril Hodges (188-84, college: Long Beach St.) replied with 15 points and 8 rebounds and international power forward Alexandre Rodenbourg (202-91) added 16 points and 4 assists in the effort for Basket Esch. Five Basket Esch players scored in double figures. Sparta maintains sixth position with 6-10 record. Basket Esch at the other side keeps the fourth place with seven games lost. Sparta will play against league's leader Amicale in Steinsel in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Basket Esch will play at home against Etzella and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
