Regular Season Round 15: Empoli - Ferrara 58-61

Sixth-ranked Empoli (7-8) made lots of trouble for second ranked Ferrara (14-1) on Saturday. The visitors from Ferrara managed to secure only three-point victory 61-58. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 19-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Ferrara forced 24 Empoli turnovers. Strangely Empoli outrebounded Ferrara 46-27 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was power forward Liliana Miccio (182-89) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Power forward Serena Bona (181-89, agency: SPORTlab Agency) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Czech center Klara Pochobradska (186-89) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 19 rebounds and guard Francesca Rosellini (176-90) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Empoli's coach Alessio Cioni rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ferrara maintains second place in A2 with 14-1 record having just three points less than leader Broni. Newly promoted Empoli dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Ferrara are looking forward to face Castellammare (#6) in Stabia in the next round. Empoli will play on the road against Irpino in Ariano Irpino and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
