Regular Season Round 14: Easo - Mondragon 63-51

Not a big story in a game in San Sebastian where 12th ranked Mondragon (2-8) was defeated by third ranked Easo (8-2) 63-51 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Easo. Mondragon was better in second period 16-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Mondragon to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Mondragon 46-28 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Inigo Del Valle (188-87) who scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Xabier Beraza (195-99) chipped in 4 points and 12 rebounds. Power forward Benat Barberena (204-89) produced 14 points and guard Iker Barbero (192-92) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. Easo moved-up to second place in Group A-A, which they share with Santurtzi and Ardoi. Mondragon lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with eight games lost. Easo will face league's leader Pielagos in Renedo de Pielagos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mondragon will play at home against Zarautz (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
