Regular Season Round 15: San Pietro - Palermo 57-64

Very important is a home loss of third ranked San Pietro (11-4) against fifth ranked Palermo (9-6) on Saturday night. Host San Pietro was defeated by Palermo in a tough game in San Pietro 57-64. It looked good early as San Pietro took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Palermo had a 16-9 second period charge getting the lead and San Pietro was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 57-64. They dominated on the defensive end, holding San Pietro to just 5 points in third quarter. Palermo forced 26 San Pietro turnovers. San Pietro was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for power forward Elena Riccardi (187-82) who led her team to a victory with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Forward Marta Verona (178-94) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Point guard Mariella Santucci (178-97) answered with 19 points and the former international power forward Federica Brunetti (184-88, agency: Players Group) added 8 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for San Pietro. San Pietro's coach Paolo Seletti tested twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Palermo moved-up to fourth place in A2. San Pietro at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Palermo will play against Ancona (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. San Pietro will play against Brindisi (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
