Regular Season Round 2: Santiago - Villa Clara 107-84

The most surprising game was a loss of Villa Clara (1-1) on the court of Santiago on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Santiago 107-84. They dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Villa Clara's 48. Santiago forced 21 Villa Clara turnovers and outrebounded them 32-16 including 21 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Santiago made 7 blocks. International forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (on 19-of-21 shooting from the field). Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) contributed with 27 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Santiago players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) replied with 28 points and international center Yoel Cubillas (204-94) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Villa Clara. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santiago is looking forward to face Camaguey (#4) in the next round. Villa Clara will play against Guantanamo and is hoping to win this game.
