Undefeated Pielagos (9-1) recorded its first loss on the court of fourth ranked Santurtzi on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by Santurtzi 80-79. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Pielagos. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in Group A-A. The hosts trailed by 13 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 1 point. Santurtzi forced 20 Pielagos turnovers and had a 21-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Pielagos' players. Forward Mikel Sainz (195-95) scored 12 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Jon Betolaza (179-93) chipped in 15 points, 7 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Four Santurtzi players scored in double figures. Forward Miguel Molina (197-89) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds and guard David Garcia (192-80) scored 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Pielagos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santurtzi (8-2) moved-up to second place in Group A-A, which they share with Easo and Ardoi. Loser Pielagos still keeps top position with one game lost. Santurtzi will meet at home Clavijo (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pielagos will play against Easo (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
