The game in Auckland was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Illawarra Hawks (14-8) played at the court of 5th ranked New Zealand Breakers (11-10). Illawarra Hawks managed to secure a 7-point victory 103-96. Illawarra Hawks made 27-of-34 charity shots (79.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 New Zealand Breakers turnovers. Strangely New Zealand Breakers outrebounded Illawarra Hawks 52-37 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. 28 personal fouls committed by New Zealand Breakers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for American-Italian guard Kevin Lisch (188-86, college: St.Louis) who led the winners and scored 40 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (went 13 for 13 at the free throw line !!!). The former international center Andrew James Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) accounted for 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Illawarra Hawks' coach Rob Beveridge allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American center Charles Jackson (208-93, college: Tenn Tech) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 18 rebounds and the other American import guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for New Zealand Breakers in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Illawarra Hawks. They moved-up to second place. New Zealand Breakers lost their fourth game in a row. Defending champion keep the fifth position with ten games lost. Illawarra Hawks' next round opponent will be league's leader United in Melbourne and it will be for sure the game of the week. New Zealand Breakers will play on the road against Cairns Taipans (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
