Regular Season Round 17: Napoli Basket - Palermo 77-63

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 3rd placed Palermo's (12-5) road loss to second ranked Napoli Basket (14-3) 63-77 on Sunday. Napoli Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Palermo's 22. They outrebounded Palermo 44-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. Napoli Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was swingman Christian Villani (200-82) who scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Davide Serino (199-81) chipped in 17 points. Napoli Basket's coach Giampaolo Di Lorenzo used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Marcello Cozzoli (188-90) produced 26 points and naturalized Argentinian center Federico Requena (204-86, agency: Players Group) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Napoli Basket maintains second place with 14-3 record having just two points less than leader Montegrano, which they share with Bergamo. Loser Palermo keeps the third position with five games lost. Napoli Basket will face Roma S.Azzurra (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Palermo will play against Scauri (#7) and hope to win that game.
