Regular Season Round 15: Gornik Walbrzych - Nowa Sol 69-59

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Nowa Sol (9-6) lost to second ranked Gornik (13-2) in Walbrzych 59-69 on Sunday. Gornik outrebounded Nowa Sol 52-26 including a 39-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for Marcin Wrobel (200-87) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Point guard Rafal Glapinski (183-82) contributed with 15 points and 5 assists for the winners. The former international guard Marcel Ponitka (188-97, college: High School) answered with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 steals and point guard Kamil Zywert (186-96) added 7 points in the effort for Nowa Sol. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Gornik. They maintain second place in Group D with 13-2 record behind leader Kotwica. Loser Nowa Sol keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Gornik will face Olesnica (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nowa Sol will play against Gniezno (#12) and hope to win that game.
