Regular Season Round 20: Azad - Gorgan 87-85 OT

Shahrdari Gorgan (#6) forced the game against Azad (#5) into an overtime, but lost by two points 85-87 on Monday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Shahrdari Gorgan won third quarter 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Shahrdari Gorgan used huge pressure winning it 22-16 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 9-11. They outrebounded Shahrdari Gorgan 51-38 including 24 on the offensive glass. International guard Javad Davari (185-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points. International power forward Rouzbeh Arghavan (214-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Azad's coach Mostafa Hashemi used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The former international guard Benny Koochoie (190-86, college: CS Stanislaus) replied with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and British power forward Ryan Richards (212-91, agency: Three Eye Sports) added 21 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Shahrdari Gorgan. Five Azad and four Shahrdari Gorgan players scored in double figures. Azad maintains fifth position with 13-7 record. Shahrdari Gorgan at the other side keeps the sixth place with ten games lost. Azad's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tehran to the arena Army.
