Regular Season Round 15: Al Sadd - Al Shamal 88-82

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Sadd (#1) and Al Shamal (#7). Despite it looked like an easy game for Al Sadd, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Guest Al Shamal challenged much higher ranked Al Sadd giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by six points 88-82. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-14. But Al Shamal won second period 23-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Sadd dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Al Shamal's 46. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Ivorian-French center Mohamed Kone (211-81, college: Valparaiso) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds. International swingman Khalid Abdi (198-87) accounted for 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Al Sadd players scored in double figures. Moroccan-Canadian Mohamed Hachad (194-83, college: Northwestern) came up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and American swingman Mildon Ambres (198-84, college: S.Nazarene) added 24 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Al Shamal in the defeat. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Al Sadd. They maintain first place with 12-1 record, which they share with Al Rayyan. Al Shamal at the other side keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Al Sadd will play against Al Khor (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Al Shamal will play against Al Wakrah and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
