We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Mash'had where 7th ranked Samen (7-14) was defeated by eighth ranked Shah.Tabriz (4-15) 98-90 on Thursday. Shah.Tabriz shot 34 for 46 from the free-throw line, while Samen only scored sixteen points from the stripe. Shah.Tabriz forced 25 Samen turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Vahid Hajian (188-85) who scored 26 points and 5 assists. The former international guard Majid GhasemZadeh (187-89) chipped in 22 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Lithuanian power forward Povilas Cukinas (210-83) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and the former international point guard Erfan Nasajpour (177-84) added 20 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Shah.Tabriz maintains eighth place with 4-15 record. Samen lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 14 games lost. Shah.Tabriz will meet higher ranked Azad (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Samen will play against Ayandeh Sazan in Tehran and hope to secure a win.
