Regular Season Round 17: Conquero - Campus Promete 95-80

Very predictable result when second ranked Conquero (13-4) won against 12th ranked Campus Promete (5-12) in Huelva 95-80. It looked good early as Campus Promete took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Conquero had a 27-20 second period charge getting the lead and Campus Promete was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-95. Conquero made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. Conquero outrebounded Campus Promete 45-33 including 19 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Campus Promete helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Nigerian-American forward Adaora Elonu (185-90, college: Texas A&M, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. American center Talia Caldwell (188-91, college: California) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds. American forward Arhonda Covington (185-85, college: Louisville) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and British center Azania Stewart (195-89, college: Florida, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Conquero. They maintain second place with 13-4 record having just three points less than leader Avenida. Campus Promete lost their third game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Conquero's next round opponent will be Zamarat (#11) in Zamora and are hoping to win another game. Campus Promete will play at home against Gernika and hope to win that game.
