Leader Ventspils delivered the sixteenth win on Friday night. This time they beat 8th ranked Valka/Valga (5-6) 94-76. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Ventspils dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Valka/Valga's 28. They outrebounded Valka/Valga 43-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Valka/Valga helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall) fired 23 points and 4 steals for the winners. His fellow American import forward Alan Wiggins (206-85, college: USF) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Pitts is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Ventspils players scored in double figures. The former international center Jurijs Aleksejevs (202-85) produced 25 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Kristo Saage (187-85) added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Ventspils maintains first place with 16-3 record. Newly promoted Valka/Valga keeps the eighth position with six games lost. Ventspils are looking forward to face bottom-ranked BK Ogre (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Valka/Valga will have a break next round.
