Regular Season Round 32: Fuerza Regia - Gigantes 103-102

Seventh-ranked Gigantes (11-19) were very close to win a game against third ranked Fuerza Regia (17-11) in Monterrey on Friday. Fuerza Regia managed to secure only one-point victory 103-102. However their fans expected much easier game. Fuerza Regia looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The winners were led by American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) who scored that evening 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Jordan Glynn (200-89, college: SF Austin) supported him with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Fuerza Regia's coach Jose Martinez Boglio used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Even 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) by international forward Edgar Garibay (208-90, college: Long Beach St.) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. Naturalized American Eder Zuniga (190-87, college: Carroll, MT) added 26 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Fuerza Regia maintains third position with 17-11 record having twelve points less than leader Pioneros. Loser Gigantes keep the seventh place with 19 games lost. They share the position with Santos. Fuerza Regia will meet Ciudad (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gigantes will play against Abejas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
