Regular Season Round 32: Qingdao E. - Bayi R. 103-98

There was no surprise when 18th ranked Bayi Rockets (7-25) were defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Qingdao Eagles (15-17) 103-98 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 35-21. But Bayi Rockets won second period 24-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Qingdao Eagles made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game. Bayi Rockets were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Jonathan Gibson (188-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) who helped to win the game recording 49 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and swingman Chengyu Zhang (193-89) who added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. The former international center ZhongHao Xu (212-90) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Zuming Zhang (205-95) scored 25 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Qingdao Eagles have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Shanghai S. and Jiangsu D. Bayi Rockets lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth position with 25 games lost. Qingdao Eagles will face higher ranked Shandong Bulls (#3) in Jinan in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Bayi Rockets will play at home against Guandong Tigers (#5) and hope to win that game.
