Regular Season Round 5: Camaguey - Villa Clara 73-85

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Tigres (3-2) in Camaguey. Hosts were defeated by Villa Clara (4-1) 85-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Tigres. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Strangely Tigres outrebounded Villa Clara 29-16. The former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) nailed 43 points (!!!) and 4 steals for the winning side and international center Yoel Cubillas (204-94) accounted for 14 points and 4 steals. Salvadorean Yordanis Jaca came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds and Yoimar Lopez (-96) added 13 points respectively for Tigres in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Villa Clara have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Capitalinos. Tigres at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. Villa Clara will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tigres will play again at home against the league's second-placed Villa Clara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
